Pennsport
CITYSPACE | Monday, March 8th, 2010 | No Comments »Pennsport is an older Philadelphia neighborhood close to the Delaware River between Front and 5th Streets, from Washington Avenue to Snyder.
Pennsport was originally developed during the colonial period and is an architecturally varied neighborhood. The neighborhood is thought to be one of the oldest parts of South Philly.
Pennsport is the home to the famous Mummers – where the roots of the Mummer’s Parade began in 1901.
More than a century later Pennsport is still home to the Mummers. The huge New Year’s Day Mummer’s Parade travels up South Broad Street to City Hall, but the annual “Two Street” party still occurs.
