Espresso and the Environment in Mount Airy

hriley | June 20th, 2008 | No Comments »

The High Point Cafe in Mount Airy (602 Carpenter Lane, Philadelphia, PA 19119)

This little coffee shop is a throw-back to the early 90’s beginning coffee boon – when it was all about the community talk shop – with good espresso and a kindly atmosphere. This was a time before we all hovered in our couches and overstuffed armchairs surfing the net or “working from home.” The High Point doesn’t offer wireless internet – sporting an attitude of wanting their patrons to talk and get to know each other. And talk they do – getting a table in this quaint little lively spot is a challenge – but there is always the option to share a table with another java drinker or two – as there are tables that are reserved for just this purpose.

Along with having the best Americanos in town, this is a great spot for light fare – get there early in the morning before the baked goods are eaten! The High Point bakes everything on premises and features such yummy treats as apple cheddar scones and cardamom coffee cake with walnuts. The menu also features fresh off the griddle crepes made with organic eggs and hormone free milk – and of course, you can make your own.

The High Point Cafe is located on Carpenter Street in Mount Airy, kitty-corner to Weaver’s Way Coop – the most thriving grocery coop in the city. http://www.weaversway.coop/ Also down the street is the very cool Environmental Home Store – your one stop shop for environmental building and interior home supplies. Check it out at http://www.environmentalhomestore.com/ Not only do they carry a fantastic line of enviro friendly products, the advice you can get from the friendly staff is invaluable when it comes to remodeling and greening up your property.
